Intraocular Lens (IOL) Options

There are 3 main categories of intraocular lens implants monofocal, toric and multifocal.

  • The standard monofocal lens is able to correct nearsightedness or farsightedness but not astigmatism. This usually means that with this lens implant your vision will improve but you may be dependent on glasses after surgery for best vision at distance and near.
  • The toric lens is able to correct nearsightedness or farsightedness as well as astigmatism. Most patients with the toric lens are able to see very well without glasses at a distance and depend on reading glasses alone.
  • The multifocal lens allows you to regain the ability to focus for near and far without eyeglasses. Most patients with multifocal lenses are glasses free for most activities. There are different types of multifocals implants approved by the FDA to correct presbyopia. All are available at Airala Laser and Cataract Institute.

During your consultation our doctors will be able to personalize your treatment and lens choice based on your specific needs.
